How to schedule an autopsy.
1. Decide which Service you want.
a.) Autopsy with or without toxicology
b.) Brain Evaluation by neuropathologist or brain evaluation by neuropathologist
and a complete autopsy
2. Complete the Consent Form online,
a.) or complete a downloadable Consent Form and email the completed consent to contactus@mapsautopsy.com
**You must also complete a Cranial Examination Questionnaire if you are requesting a brain analysis.
3. Pay the fee for the Service requested
a.) Please pay under Fee/ payments tab. Secure payment using PayPal, able to check out as a guest.
b.) We also accept certified checks, checks from recognized funeral homes, and the following credit cards: MasterCard; Visa; American Express; and Discover.
c.) Sometimes the funeral home will cover the cost of the autopsy and include the fee in your final funeral bill.
d.) Potential travel fee depending on location.
**A fee for use of the funeral home facility may apply.
4. Results
a.) A Provisional Report will be sent to the address of the legal Next of Kin within two weeks of the procedure, along with a paid receipt for the autopsy.
b.) When the Final Report has been completed, it will be sent to the legal Next of Kin, generally within 80-90 working days of the initial autopsy. The report be mailed through the USPS, certified mail, a signature is required, final report will be in an manilla envelope. A lengthier time frame may be required for more complex cases.
During the autopsy procedure small tissue samples, and lab specimens will be carefully obtained, and sent to the appropriate laboratory for analysis.
The tissue samples are then processed to make microscopic slides. Once the slides have been prepared, they will be reviewed and analyzed by one of our Pathologists.
* The Payment and Consent Form must be received PRIOR to the autopsy procedure. *
